Pious is an ancient word, so most folks have a narrow understanding of the definition thus leaning to just one meaning. Though “religious” is one of its prime connotations it is more of an attitude towards the Divine. God is the Maker of ALL, and as a Redeemed child of God I am therefore called to be Holy as He is Holy. Impossible for sinful human beings alone, but by the Power of God we can live holy lives through that power. So God instructs me to do ALL to the Glory of God.
Now to explain the title to this Blog post. I truly love God and so appreciate all He has given me. I am thankful for a passion for baking and cooking for it brings tremendous joy and pleasure to many. Now most of my adult life I have been baking for a crowd, so it is a bit hard to scale down to smaller numbers. That being said I am determined to succeed to make smaller better! So I have been baking smaller pies and tarts and truthfully they are fabulous! I thought perhaps I could offer these delectable goodies to others who just cannot finish the normal size pies and tarts. Pondering these thoughts the name “Pious Pies” came into my mind so I started doing some research in proper usage of that word. My children will attest that their mother always instructed them to “look it up” before using any word they were unfamiliar with. So I did just that, and here is the way in which I will use it: Done for the benefit of others or with the intention of encouraging good. Exactly my thoughts!
Now I only bake organically so ingredients matter and I feel passionately for the small “as” local as I can get organic farmer. My wheat of choice is most of the time Einkorn but I will use other organically grown heritage wheats at times. It will always be labeled for folks so no worries. Baking seasonally is wonderful but I have found especially these days fruit does not last long. So for me freezing seems to be the best choice to try and keep the harvest fresh as possible.
